Having first had a career in ICT, Catherine changed direction and followed her heart into primary school teaching in 1998. She began her teaching career in Scoil Mochua, Celbridge, where she was surrounded by supportive, inspiring colleagues, and had a principal who was ahead of her time in terms of distributed leadership and team building. Thanks to this culture, Catherine took on various leadership roles over the years, one of which was mentoring. This eventually led to a three-year secondment with NIPT as Regional Development Officer (RDO). She relished this role, supporting NQTs and schools countrywide. She is now back in her lovely school, in her second year of principalship. It is a large school with 36 teachers and over 700 children. Catherine’s mantra is to focus on the important things: the people in the school and the teaching and learning.
