This session will focus on how schools ensure vigilance in dealing with possible child abuse. It will refresh knowledge of

• the responsibilities of ‘Mandated Persons’
• Reporting and recording procedures
• Risk Assessment and Safeguarding Statement compilation and review.

It will also inform participants of the various supports in place to assist schools in complying with child protection legislation.

Through consideration of possible scenarios, the session will seek to broaden participants’ understanding of and engagement with child protection issues and help them prepare for any situation which might arise in their school. The session will emphasise the importance of creating a culture and awareness of child protection throughout the entire school community.
